Description
The project involved the conversion, renovation and extension of the former commandant's residence of the Maastricht fortress at Tongersestraat 6. Throughout the centuries, this building, which has now been designated a national monument, has served as a home, a notary's office, a bank and finally as the accommodation for a number of office spaces for Maastricht University.
Since 2012, the Service Science Factory has been housed in the former Commander’s House, where there are now 26 office spaces, 3 meeting rooms and 2 classrooms. Given that the Service Science Factory was to be the occupant, the building was renovated in 2012 with the primary goal of turning it into a sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient multifunctional building. Among other things, capillary tube mats were installed in the ceilings, walls and floors to regulate the temperature in the building. This eliminates the need for radiators.
